Her name was Vivian Cunningham. The name was enough to scare the shit out of half the partners at the firm, but it wasn’t her name that got her to where she was, it was her hard work that made her a woman to be respected. Not only was she the only female partner but she was also one of the youngest, yet she worked harder than any of the law fellows there. It wasn’t long before they came knocking at her door with an offer she couldn’t refuse. And now that she had her title she realized that she would do anything to keep it. Which is why nobody could ever know that she had a forbidden lover.
The law fellows were too traditional, they were too judgmental. They would not look at her happiness; they would only look at her liability. She knew they would do this because this was how she was trained to be. As a representative of the firm, you must fit a particular mold and as the only woman, her mold was unbearably strict. She was not married and did not have a family, which meant that any lover she chose must be flawless. As it stood, her midnight caller had one major flaw.
“Just a few more times and then I’ll stop,” she would promise herself. “It’s just a temporary thing,” she would tell her mind but her mind always knew better. Vivian wasn’t going to change.
There was no real reason why the firm would have to know that she had a lover. She just had to make sure that they didn’t know who her lover was.
And so it was final. She would not tell anybody about her secret love affair…she would not tell anybody that she had a lover. And she certainly would not tell anybody that her secret lover was a woman.
nice story.
